What is RSS?
This article may only be for beginners but I still thought it’s somewhat very important for those who doesn’t quite understand what RSS is and how it works. So, I’ll try to explain it the easiest way possible.
RSS stands for Rich Site Summary and if you put close attention to its name then you’ll find the answers pretty much straightaway. Simply, for blogger or web site owners, RSS is a way of delivering regularly updated web content to their website visitors/readers. And for readers like you RSS Feed means getting news delivered to you through your email or an RSS reader.
What is the benefit of RSS?
Well, I am glad you asked. If you’ve found my website and reading this article then it means you’re a regular reader of interesting articles found across the web. You may search around a bit sometimes or go back to the websites or blogs you like and read their regularly updated content.
Now, say you visit 5 blogs regularly to check for any updated content. How about changing this trend? How about getting all of those blogs to send news to you as soon as they publish them? It’s like getting newsagents to deliver your daily newspapers to you for free rather than you going there and picking them up. Very convenient, isn’t it?
You can receive RSS Feeds delivered right into your email account or you can choose an RSS reader like Google or Yahoo! reader to receive RSS feeds. Depending on the content publisher you may receive the full article or only the title and part of an article delivered to you. And if the article seems interesting to you then you can click on the link to go to that website to read the full article.
And this is all about RSS Feeds. Simple wasn’t it? Just in case you still have a slight doubt then please watch the following video which has done a great job to make it even simpler.
