SEO Tips - Keywords Selection
In the previous session of SEO Tips series I discussed about keyword research. If you have missed that session then please read that keyword research article first.
Today I’ll discuss about keyword selection. How you should go about selecting your keywords after the keyword research.
Once you’ve found your keywords, you’ve to now priorities them. First of all, always and I mean ALWAYS break your keywords into two different sets, Primary Keywords and Secondary Keywords.
Primary keywords being the most important one’s related to your products and services and obviously the secondary being the less important keywords but related to your products and services of course. Why do you need to break them into two different sets? Good question. Think straight; you’re not the only one trying to be at the top of search engines for the same products or services. Your competitors are trying to do the same, not to mention some of them are sitting at the top of the ladder already. So while the competition for your main keywords is really high, why don’t you target the less competitive market as well and optimize sections of your site accordingly? That way you’ll keep getting traffic while you’re reaching for the top.
So from your keyword research, choose about 12 keywords or keyword phrases and separate them into 6 and 6. 6 for primary and 6 for secondary set of keywords. Why only 6 & 6? Because, again you want to target a niche market so your content has to be optimized very well according to your keywords. Remember it doesn’t mean that your site will only be optimized for those 12 or so keywords and will not be found for any other keywords. At the end of the day if your site is optimized properly then your site may be found for any other combinations of those keywords. I will discuss that in more details later.
So, now that you’ve done your keyword research and selected your primary and secondary sets of keywords, let’s get into action; start optimizing the site for these keywords.
This is it for today. In the next SEO Tips session I’ll discuss about optimizing and using keywords on your site and the content.
