SEO Tips - Keywords Optimization
In the previous session of this SEO Tips series I discussed about keyword selection and how you can break keywords into two different sets and I also explained why. If you have missed that session then please check the full SEO Tips series.
Today I’ll discuss about optimizing your site for the selected keywords. Before starting optimizing, select the keywords for each individual page on your site. The reason for that is, obviously your homepage and products page will not be optimized for exactly the same set of keywords. Even if they’ve the same set of keywords the order of the keywords will not be the same. So select the keyword sets for each page before optimizing the page. You’ve now ready to get into action once you’ve done that. Each and every single elements of a web page has to be optimized properly. I’ll discuss those in details here.
Let’s start with HTML Tags.
Title: This is the first element of a page that a Google crawler sees. So you see the importance of the Title tag. Use this section efficiently to put your primary set of keywords. Don’t use too many keyword as Google crawler reads only about 65 characters. And I wouldn’t normally recommend putting your company name in the Title tag unless you’ve a lot of room left to play with. Just use keywords and your services location. And don’t forget about Keyword Proximity and Positioning Weight. I’ll post a separate article on Keyword Proximity and Positioning Weight. But for now please remember, position of keywords is very important. Last keyword in the list doesn’t have the same weight of the first keyword. Importance of keyword reduces as it goes deeper. So always use the mainstream keyword at the beginning of the list. Finally Title tag should be different for different pages based on page content.
H1: I normally use and recommend using H1 tags efficiently for right keyword phrases. So use this area for keywords to explain the content of your website pages. Google may not give enough importance to H1 Tag anymore but like META tags, it doesn’t hurt using H1 tag on the right place. Sometimes you can closely match it with your title tags if your design allows it. If you do so then make sure that the order of the keywords is same as well.
Next: More html tags.
